Catch the Lube!

Slow trains maybe a thing of the past thanks to a new scheme being trialled in The Wirral this week. Trains which are consistently late will be coated with a lubricant made from petroleum jelly to help them slide through the tunnels more smoothly with less friction, hence speeding up their journey. The jelly also contains an insecticide to prevent the notorious ‘buzz-back’ effect caused by live insects which, having become stuck to the front of the train, attempt to slow it down or stop it by flapping their wings. This can cause delays of up to ten minutes in high summer.
