‘Because Antonia gave what she would normally spend on a saturday in a Earl’s Court deli; A creative professional can get the support he or she needs’ Richard Curtis’

The screenwriter and broadcaster Sir Richard Curtis has launched an appeal to help the millions of starving creative professionals, in the turbulent times of government cuts and other cuts. With millions of graphic designers unable to afford the very basic software, Curtis has decided to something needs to be done: ‘ It makes me shudder when I think of those millions of creative professionals using second hand equipment, or working as supply teachers; something needed to happen’

Curtis has even taken the drastic measure of liquidating the assets of Comic Relief; transferring the donations that were meant to go to Ethiopia to funding office space and software for a group of 6 designers in Borough.

The reaction.

India, a graduate ofSt. Martin’s college, had to supplement her parents allowance by working part time as a lecturer in a rough area. Now, with the help of Curtis’s charity, she now has contracts to design the new government initiative of selling
NHS hospitals to theSantanderbanking consortium.

I owe everything to Richard. Six weeks ago, I was struggling on the lowly wage of an academic. Look at me now!

In addition, Sir Curtis has bought rehearsal space and has donated it to the cast of Rock of Ages.
