Nathaniel, a leech belonging to King George VI has died at the age of 94 only hours before its 95th birthday.
The annelid was believed to have passed away peacefully surrounded by members of the royal family including Prince Edward on who’s blood it had gorged itself only hours earlier.
The Prince, who was Nathaniel’s least favorite tipple, is believed to have been drinking a cocktail of gin and hair tonic that morning and it is this which is believed to have killed the leech.
Although he doesn’t feature in Tom Hooper’s movie about the late king, Nathaniel is believed to have played a key role in the Windsor household, and was clinically addicted to blue blood.
He is survived by two daughters and his fifth wife Hermione. The funeral will be held on Wednesday in the family chapel at Windsor Castle.
