Urban Fox Steals Boris Bike!

The increasingly brazen behaviour of urban foxes has reached new heights in West London with news that one was seen pedalling away on a hire bicycle, or ‘Boris bike’ as they are popularly known in the capital.

Eye witness Colin Devizes, 34, could hardly believe his eyes when he saw the fox mounting the bike at a docking station in Trebovir Road, Earls Court and then confidently setting off towards Shepherd’s Bush.

‘To be honest,’ he said, ‘I was on my way back from the pub and at first I thought I might have had one too many! Funny thing is, he seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was even indicating when crossing over into traffic. It definitely wasn’t his first time, that’s for sure.’

How the fox got access to one of the bikes which are normally locked in position when parked is still a mystery. It is been suggested that the creature might even have officially registered with the sharing scheme and was using its own membership key.

Mr Devizes, for one, is deeply concerned. ‘If he’s doing it,’ he said, ‘it’s only a matter of time before there are others. They’re not stupid. It’s going to cause chaos with the system’

However, a spokesman from the RSPCA was quick to allay any fears. ‘Foxes are known to be fiercely territorial and I doubt this one would have gone very far,’ he said. ‘I’m pretty sure the bike would have been returned to the same docking station within the specified time limit.’
